Just like last year, I'll be constantly updating this thread throughout the night as the winners of all the Oscars are announced. Right now the red carpet entrances are being show and Ellen Page looks stunning as always. Hal Holbrook is very old and the non-TNA Dixie Carter is accompanying him.

If a post has this image in it, it's announcing an Oscar winner.

Why the fuck do people care about this shite?

Serious question, btw.

I have a guy at work who was upset it might not go ahead. I tried to explain that it was fucking shite and an excuse to trot out famous people you see every fucking day on TV/in magazines/on the Interweb.

I don't need some old cunt to tell me what the best film of the year is, or who gave the best performance.

It's an event. The Oscars are the ultimate movie awards. If he was crying about the TV Quick or MTV Movie awards then he needs a slap.

Oscars are special though.

I dunno, I just think it's the biggest spectacle of the year. I'm a pop culture junkie so stuff like this I enjoy. Well I don't really enjoy the show, I enjoy seeing those that make quality movies get rewarded, and it also helps with angering me for those that got ripped off.

That was a nice little bit. Travolta making fun of himself. Tom Cruise wouldn't do that.

Travolta's apparently awesome in real life.

Watched the whole thing, pretty meh overall especially coming off of a really great Grammys.

- The couple that sang that song from "Once" was super awesome.

- Could someone tell them how dumb it looks when they're running late and just throw out the last couple awards before a quick exit? I mean it happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR. I mean sound editing gets it's full time and then at the end every year it's, "here are the best two awards OK BYE."

No Country For Old Men winning Best Picture = :credloss:

Not that there was any to lose after they gave it to the abysmal "Crash" two years ago.

Bear in mind I'm not saying No Country was bad per se.It was just rather unfocussed and directionless. There was great tension in some of the chase scenes and some great dialogue certainly (particularly in the much shown gas station scene). But a film based solely on how people react to indiscriminate evil is a bit of thin premise for a supposed Best Picture winner in my opinion.

Out of the five I've seen four, and the one I haven't seen is There Will Be Blood, which I'm going to see this week. I have a feeling this will be brilliant as Paul T. Anderson and DDL are as close to sure things as you can get. In terms of the four I've seen I'd rank them as follows:

Atonement - ****1/2
Juno - **** (revised from my original rating)
No Country - ***1/2
Michael Clayton - ***

John Stewart won me over last night more or less, after a shaky monologue. One quibble was that he was a bit dismissive after some nice acceptance speeches, but he did really well with the material he had at his disposal, particularly the writer's strike "what if we had to show this crap?" gag.

All in all a decent show. Best Picture was the only award I was in a position to argue with.
