Playing sports growing up is something everyone can relate to. Whether you were on an actual team or forced to do it in gym class, everyone has had to do it. But maybe not everyone wanted to participate. Maybe some just went along with it because it seemed like they had to, or were encouraged to by an obsessive parent. The number 6 entry on NPP’s Top South Park Episodes list deals with these themes and more.

It’s hard to find a television series that hasn’t had a “Christmas episode.” Sitcoms, dramas, cartoons, reality shows, game shows, nearly every type of TV show incorporates the holiday into an episode or more. South Park does it a little different, however. From talking pieces of poop to terrorists capturing Santa, they inject their own spin on things into their Christmas specials. But perhaps one of the strangest and most ridiculous Christmas specials in any series is the episode that comes in at #7 on NPP’s list of top South Park episodes.
Parodies are an important piece in South Park’s arsenal. But sometimes, rather than parody a specific show or movie, they’ll parody a whole idea or genre. And what genre is more parodied than 80s movies? And although it may be parodied often, South Park adds its own touch to the idea. That’s what we find for the next entry that’s tied for 8th on NPP’s list of favorite South Park episodes.
Video games hold a solid place in pop culture. They’ve influenced everything from movies, to music, to breakfast cereals. There’s also no shortage of video game episodes and references in South Park. So it’s no surprise that when Guitar Hero emerged as one of the most popular and widely appealing franchises in recent times, that South Park would use it as influence for an episode. It’s also no surprise that with the popularity of video games and Guitar Hero on NPP, that “Guitar Queer-O” would make an appearance on our list of favorite South Park episodes.
