Well I hope everyone was paying attention in last weeks edition of This Week in the Betting Forum, where I mentioned that Scotsman was returning with NFL picks.  If you followed him in the NFL betting thread, you would have went 6-1, for a profit valued at pure sex.  Tucho also had a 2 unit winning day.  See what tips we have this week in the NFL Betting thread.

Scotsmans NBA Betting System also has been turning things around, with winning nights on Monday and Wednesday, and a 1-1 night on Tuesday.  You can read all the NBA Betting Tips here.

In Soccer Betting we had HRHomer make a monumental mistake, by picking Glasgow Celtic to defeat Aalborg.  This was something we should all learn from – Celtic have went 17 games in Europe on the road without winning.  Despite this being an important game for them, that statistic really speaks for itself – plus Celtic failed to beat Aalborg at home.  HRHomer felt “the run has to end someday” which is the worst type of thinking, but is something that is easy to fall into, especially when you have an interest in the game.  HRHomer let feelings overrule statistics here, which is why he lost the bet.  If you flip a coin 50 coins, and it ends up heads every time, that doesn’t mean tails will come up next because it’s “due”.  Plus there was even less chance of Celtic winning here, due to their confidence.  Now this is only a bad bet if you don’t get value for it – but based on those statistics, Celtics odds at the very least should have been 5/1.  Instead they were about evens, which means they win 50% of the time there just for you to break even, which isn’t the case.

Regardless,  Dirty Hun has started tipping games involving teams no-one cares about, like CSKA Sofia, and Metalurg Donetsk.  This has started off well, so be sure to start following him in the soccer betting thread.

That’s all for this week.

Week 12 has ended with a five way tie at the top of the leaderboard with buckdiddy, Dirty Hun, tron, daycru and, of course, Kender finishing with 12 correct picks each. This was Kender’s fourth weekly win this year and it was good enough to double his overall lead to four points over both HRH and viceroy who continue to share second place.

daycru’s share of the win moves him up to a seventh place tie with Boner at 109 points while Dirty Hun and buckdiddy both move into a 14th place tie with manbooba, four points ahead of tron who now has an even 100 points and sits alone in 17th place.

The bottom of the leaderboard is occupied by CliffX this week who made only five correct picks. JoeyAt75 & Taff both picked Pittsburgh on Thursday but failed to make picks for the weekend games so I treated them as if they didn’t make their picks at all and gave them three points each. Rookie Monster also gets three points for making no picks. Mallard continues to hold last place in the overall standings now sitting seven points behind RM who may be in his last week in the pick ‘em if he doesn’t make picks this week.

WEEK 12 FUN FACTS

Pittsburgh’s win over Cincinnati was picked by everyone this week. Dallas’ win over San Francisco (all but loosejonnyt) and Chicago beating St. Louis (everyone but Scotsman) were the next most correctly picked games. I have been a huge sports fan all of my life. Members of the NPP community can attest to this; I love sports so much that sometimes I can’t pick only one team per sport to root for (GO METS SOX!). Well, there was a period of my life where I was quite anti-social and the closest thing to a sport I was into was wrestling, not the best of times, but that’s not why I’m here.

As well as watching a lot of sports like your average couch potato, I’ve played a few in my life. Despite struggles with weight and conditioning, never being in great shape since the later stages of my childhood and all of that … I’ve had my fair share of sports experiences. Here are my success stories:

Growing up in Uruguay, South America, I was a Soccer fan, like everybody else. I have fond memories of playing in the yard at school with my friends, getting into fights over games at recess (Yes, I had an attitude problem when I was a kid), and that led me to joining a team when I was 9 years old. We trained 2 days a week and played every Sunday. For a fat kid like me, this was the only workout I’d ever get. I tried to make the most of my playing days; obviously, since I couldn’t run a lot and my stamina was awful, I wasn’t a starter. I made up for that by being versatile, really versatile; I played every position in that team, including goalie. I’ve always been a decent goalie, although I dislike the position; too much responsibility. My biggest game of my young soccer career I guess would be the time that I scored twice against a team and we won 4-2. The first goal was me bullying my way to the inside after a rebound and getting a shot off, the second one was on a penalty kick that I wanted to place softly on the left side but I ended up kicking violently, high and to the middle. I only remember a few games like that where I scored and how I did it, but I don’t remember much else. The only thing I know for sure is that I sucked due to lack of conditioning among other things.

After this came my move to New York and my anti-social period where all I did was masturbate to porn videos found on KaZaA and watch wrestling, you could say I was an Ormberg in training back then. Fortunately, I made friends, and they introduced me to playing my favorite sport: Basketball.

I love Basketball. Anybody could play it. Man, if you’ve got a shot and some basketball IQ, you got a chance. I regret never playing in a league or anything, all of my b-ball playing was done at the park or a gym. I was heavy into basketball the first time I started losing weight and it sure helped. The only bad thing about it was that I sprained my ankle three times in about 6 months, and, I’m no doctor, but I’m sure there’s some permanent damage there. I feel like I could sprain that ankle any time now.

The large majority of my basketball experiences have been in New York. I played in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn … anywhere. In Spain and Uruguay I barely played, mostly because I don’t have any friends that play basketball (they’d rather rent out an indoor soccer pitch and play than go to the park and shoot ball. Go figure). Most of the time, when not playing 1 on 1, I’d play either point guard or forward, depending on the game. I’m only 5′11, but due to my weight I’ve been able to  play forward, set picks, box out, basically the dirty work. This is a sport I want to try again in the future definitely, I feel like I can get hooked on playing it, and really, that’s the most important part. You got to like what you’re doing. Besides, I really miss playing it. My basketball life still can turn into an NPP success story!

I’d rather not go into indoor soccer since it’s more of a hobby. I play about twice a month with friends, sometimes more. It’s fun.

Baseball , I’ve barely played. Like the sport. My only memory of it is the time I was at a local park playing baseball with some instructors from a school (Not too sure), and I batting. Pitcher threw the ball, I swung … and released the bat, hitting a female instructor behind me in her groin area. Needless to say, I left. That was my introduction and exit to playing baseball.

Football I played a couple of times when it snowed. Tackle football, no two touch shit. That’s for girls. It was pretty fun. There’s actually a football league here in Uruguay and I went to try out for a team. After exchanging hits for a couple of hours, coming home and not being able to sleep because my neck and back hurt so damn bad, I decided that maybe football is not for me.

I trained in Boxing for about 2-3 months earlier this year. I liked it; the exercise, punching bags … the training was good. The actual boxing? Not so enjoyable. I wasn’t good at defending, so while I was able to dish out some punishment, I took a lot as well. The thing that I did learn is how to throw a punch. Now, every time I see a street fight or an incident on TV or whatever, I laugh at how the punches are thrown. Every man should know how to throw a punch the right way, no excuses.

Now, onto my latest passion: Running . I never liked running before; I thought, why run? It’s silly. It has no purpose. I never thought I’d get a thrill out of running. I figured that I could do running in soccer or basketball or whatever, but just running for the sake of it? Uh … lame as hell. That was me back then. Now? I love it.

I started, honestly, because of the aforementioned weight issues. I had done diets before, I had done exercise before, but I’d never combined the two. One day after finding myself about 23 pounds heavier than I’d like to be, I decided to take up running. The first time I went out, I jogged a mile without stopping then decided to lay on the grass before continuing. That day, I never did. Thankfully, I kept at it. I started going with friends. At first, the goal was to do 2 miles. Not only jogging, with walking in there and everything. Quickly, I started to gain endurance and stamina, not to mention confidence. It all escalates. To "feel" like a runner, I bought tights, running sneakers (Instead of running with old basketball ones), some Nike socks, and a tight dry-fit shirt. I started running less than 2 months ago, and in 6 days, I’m going to run my first 10km race (6.2 miles).  I’ll let you know how I do – it may be my first NPP Success story.

Well all things considered, it was a relatively quiet week in the betting forum with some average performances.

Scotsman continues to struggle with his NBA Betting System, as he just can’t seem to catch a break.  One night the Raptors don’t show up when he tips them to cover the spread, the next night he tips against them and they show up.  Then you have the Milwaukee Bucks, who had a 20 point lead(with spread factored in) with just a few minutes to go in the 3rd period, and blew it.  He’s still confident in the system, but in this current run it might be advised to bet against him.  So go see what tips he currently has, then bet the other side!

Speaking of bad luck, Dirty Hun had two tips early in the week on English football, with Darlington and Grays to win.  Darlington lost of course, but more fun was to be had in the Grays game, a 4/1 pick to win, as they were 1-0 up and the game got abandoned.  Good stuff.  Hun did get a nice winner though with Qatar/Japan over 2.5.

UFC was of course last weekend, and there was positive results from the NPP crew.  Scotsmans only real bet was Hazelett, although he also tipped Maia.  Both won.  HRHomer won one lost one with Hazelett and Couture.  It was great to see Mikey back and tipping, and although his Couture and Quarry picks lost out, Florian and Hazelett both nailed him some wins.  NPP usually does very well at MMA, so the MMA & Boxing Betting Thread is a great place to make some money.

Tucho was the only one in the NFL Betting thread last week, and had an unfortunate disastrous week, as he went 0-4.  Still profitable however, and Scotsman, who has been very successful so far this season, has returned with his tips for this week in the NFL.

The Entertainment Betting thread has seen some discussion about the show “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”.  I’ll be honest I have no idea what that show even is, but if you want to check out the bets for it then see the thread for more info.

And that’s it for this week in betting.  Be sure to check out the NFL Betting Thread for tips for Sundays games.

It’s seven weeks and counting at the top of the overall leaderboard for Kender who picked up his third weekly win in Week 11 sharing the victory with Taff, who may or may not have used Kender’s picks as his own, with 13 correct picks each. Taff’s share of the win propels him up six places in the standings to 15th overall.

Second place overall continues to be held by HRH and viceroy who both had 12 correct picks each, tying them with nateeasy & Osiris for third place this week, leaving them two points behind Kender with 107 points.

Mallard’s animal themed picks this week gave him a total of six correct picks and left him in second last place again ahead of only Rookie Monster who didn’t make picks and is given 4 points. He also remains in last place in the overall standings with 70 points leaving him twelve points behind Scotsman.

WEEK 11 FUN FACTS

Miami was the most correctly picked team this week with everyone but Scotsman picking them over Oakland. Carolina over Detroit (everyone except buckdiddy, Malalrd & JoeyAt75) and Pittsburgh over San Diego (all but loosejonnyt, Joey & viceroy) were the next most picked winning teams. Another week without any huge upsets meant that the Jets with five picks and the Broncos with six picks were the least picked teams.
