
The word “controversial” is almost synonymous with South Park. When you make fun of as many things as they do, and in the vulgar manner they usually do, you’re bound to hit some nerves. But there’s one episode that has probably caused more uproar and dispute than all the others, even causing one long time cast member to leave the show, and the fallout around it leading to the creators to allude towards leaving the network. This is the episode that comes in tied for 8th on NPP’s list of favorite South Park episodes.

Just like time and time again us Americans drove to theaters (possibly by way of the kids) and watched another crappy movie and brought it to #1 at the box office. That movie, G-Force, actually beat a well proven commodity in Harry Potter. Just barely but it is still a victory. It sure is a shame that talking gerbils is considered top notch hilarity in America. Video games hold a solid place in pop culture. They’ve influenced everything from movies, to music, to breakfast cereals. There’s also no shortage of video game episodes and references in South Park. So it’s no surprise that when Guitar Hero emerged as one of the most popular and widely appealing franchises in recent times, that South Park would use it as influence for an episode. It’s also no surprise that with the popularity of video games and Guitar Hero on NPP, that “Guitar Queer-O” would make an appearance on our list of favorite South Park episodes.
