Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
31 Points (6 of 18 lists)
Highest Rating: #3 by Tucho
Our countdown has featured all sorts of genres of music and this one, despite its title, is considered country. The composer of this song, Johnny Marks, had previously written other Christmas songs for country singers, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer by Gene Autry and A Holly, Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives. The song was written and released in 1958 yet did not reach the charts that year or the year after. Finally in 1960, after Brenda Lee had become a star, it reached #14 on the charts and even as late as 1984 it reached #5. Brenda Lee was actually only 14 years old when she recorded, making her the youngest person on this list.
