Another weekend in the bag and another weekend that ended up being dominated by an animated movie. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs took the top spot. The Informant did well but Love Happens managed to beat out Jennifer’s Body. Granted the budget on Jennifer’s Body is quite low at $16M but the marketing was all over the place. Also opening were some independent features like 35 Shots of Rum and Fuel which is a movie I did some post-production work on (OMGCHEAPPLUG). Click for the full list and noteage.

1. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – $30.1M ($30.1M)
2. The Informant! – $10.545M ($10.545M)
3. I Can Do Bad All By Myself – $10.06M ($37.932M)
4. Love Happens – $8.456M ($8.456M)
5. Jennifer’s Body – $6.8M ($6.8M)
6. 9 – $5.458M ($22.794M)
7. Inglourious Basterds – $3.603M ($109.901M)
8. All About Steve – $3.4M ($26.678M)
9. Sorority Row – $2.489M ($8.87M)
10. The Final Destination – $2.375M ($62.392M)

Notes
- So as I predicted Megan Fox did nothing in ways of drawing out drooling men who just want to see a tame lesbian kiss. This is her third non-Transformers movie. The other two were How To Lose Friends & Alienate People (BOMBED!!!) and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (not even a big role). Then again most vixens don’t draw big monies by themselves. Demi Moore and Angelina Jolie (to an extent) being two of the easiest examples.
- All the movies that debuted last week dropped more than 50% (9 is actually at 49% but we’ll round up). Whiteout actually dropped the worst at 58% and out of the top ten. Poor Beckinsale.
- Inglourious Basterds is now Quentin’s best domestic grossing movie and foreign as well. Good job Tarantino way to go!
- Bright Star opened up on 19 screens taking in a total of $190k putting it at $207k now. It’s a movie about the poet John Keats romance with Fanny Brawne.
- 35 Shots of Rum also opened up to make $10,600 on one screen. It is a European independent release so it shouldn’t make a big splash but you never know.
- And finally, Fuel opened up on 4 screens making $10k. Not a good per theater average with $2,500 per screen. Then again most of the places they have opened up in already went through screenings. And add into the fact that eco-docs are all over the place people are tiring of them. But it does bring up the hot and fresh topic of algae based oil which should be the future but probably won’t.

Next Week
- A musical in Fame. I’m sure it’ll be worse than the original.
- Pandorum which looks like Ben Foster will put in a great performance in another meh of a movie.
- Surrogates with Bruce Willis in a potentially interesting movie.
- And I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell which is based off of Tucker Max. You know, the dude who blogs about his sexual exploits.
- Betting on #1. It’s gonna be close again. Cloudy will get the edge. I’ll put up the betting thread tomorrow. Enjoy this picture.
