When it comes to video games, I can’t remember the last time I had as much fun as last year, when I set myself an achievement challenge. For those new visitors – the challenge was to have 500 gamerscore points minimum in every game I owned. Basically it would mean that I would have to work and get my moneys worth out of video games.

…I just haven’t been playing XBox much at all this year. I don’t care about achievements anymore, and I’ve fallen into that trap again of buying games and not playing them much, or having games sitting on my shelves gathering dust. Games I picked up that I actually went through were Dead Space, The Bourne Game, Madden 09 and uhm….well, that’s about it.
Meanwhile – sitting on my shelf basically untouched are Halo Wars, The Godfather, The Incredible Hulk, UFC, Skate, Left 4 Dead and Blitz 2.
So after a lot of thought I have decided to set myself another achievement challenge, and I will update y’all every Monday as to my progress. The achievement challenge is simple:
#1 on the NPP Leaderboard.
The current standings are;
- Nateeasy (52005)
- Deadman63/Risto (42740)
- Scotsman (42561)
Nibbles is in 5th and shouldn’t be counted out either with 33590 and increasing at an alarming rate. The rest are insignificant.
So the challenge is simple – #1 in the leaderboard by the end of 2009. If I achieve that early I may look at other goals to set, but for now that is what I am aiming for. Risto will also be tough as he’s overjoyed at finally overtaking my achievement points, and he won’t give up his lead without a fight. I also made the mistake of talking him into the Blockbuster unlimited game rental thingy, so he’s going to have even more games to go through.
That is all for now. I won’t be going for 500 points in a game or anything like that – there’ll be no grinding, no playing games I hate just to get x amount of gamerscore points – it’s #1 or bust. Feel free to set your own challenges in this thread.

Not sure if he's the highest, but Stallion83 is on 330028. He's the guy who's trying to get to 1 million, someone posted his blog here not long ago. http://www.1milliongamerscore.com
If that isn't the best, it can't be far off. I think the last world leader ended up getting his reset for cheating when Microsoft started cracking down on it, remember reading something about that.
When UFC first came out I was playing that online heaps and in the first few days I'd play lots of people with gamerscores of 200k-250k, all the achievement whores getting it out of the way I guess.
My goals? Well I think number one on our leaderboard is out of the question for me. My problem is I don't think I play enough games (curse your overseas generous rental plans), and the ones I do get I tend to plug away at trying to get as many achievements as I can, rather then move onto another game. For instance I played online GTA IV over about 2 months to get the Auf Wiedersehen Petrovic achievement. Two months. For an achievement worth 30g.
Although I did enjoy playing it, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered, but it was something to aim towards. Something like Far Cry 2 playing forever online to get to level 30, no thanks.
I do think that OCD level of commitment might get me #1 on the leaderboard for NPP at trueachievements (NPP leaderboard here)
I'd be happy if I can get top 3 on our leaderboard here. I'll probably move up to 4th soon, only a little over 1k away but then it's another 7k or so away to 3rd, so who knows. So we'll say top 3 here, #1 on TA.
I've decided to do a little challenge for myself, and get to 20000 by Jan 1st '10. I'm currently at 14590, and have a lot of games I want to play that are already out, as well as ones I know I'll want to play coming out later. I'm also don't play those pussy shit games like Avatar.
I'll race you there.

I was gonna come in here and post about my PS3 challenge too but that means I'd manually have to post my results and I don't do manual.
Edit - oh yeah picked up some achievements in fifa I didnt have, plus 925 in Spiderman Friend or foe. Now playing Lego Indy and have Kung Fu Panda to try, I'll be on 20k by September

L4D we can pick up some achievements in too. Off the top of my head theres a few we can do in normal campaigns, and will take you no time.
Ive been playing Lego Indy with Rach, will go for the 1k in that since youve done it.
Ive looked at that true achievements boolocks that Nibbles was banging on about, and sadly Im considering renting some games I traded in with next to no achievements in so I can get a 50% average in my games to achievements. Im on about 41 at the moment.
