    Split from Politics

    ---

Anyone seen the Day of Rage stuff? Major media is ignoring it.

(NATIONAL) -- Some left of center websites and bloggers are not happy that there has been virtually no media coverage by the big corporate news outfits on the “Days of Rage” protests Saturday, yet by comparison every time Sarah Palin sneezes a national news story pops up, or so goes the argument.

“Most Americans are being kept in the dark about the US Day of Rage by the corporate cable news giants at CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC who have imposed a de facto blackout on the protest,” complained politicususa.com in a story about the protests and lack of coverage.

The left of center website said even though estimates have varied from hundreds to as many as tens of thousands that came to Manhattan and others cities around the country to nonviolently disrupt the “disloyal, incompetent, and corrupt special interests which have usurped our nation’s civil and military power, spawning a host of threats to our liberty, lives and national security,” the three cable news networks devoted no airtime to the story.

The bigger complaint is, according to the website, that this sort of non-coverage of events that challenge corporate America is becoming all too familiar.

“In Wisconsin hundreds of thousands of regular people took to the streets each weekend to protest the theft of their rights, and were completely ignored by CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. Sarah Palin’s Iowa tea party speech was 1/50 as big as the Wisconsin protests, yet she was deemed worthy of national media coverage,” said the report which you can read here

    WHO WAS BEHIND THE PROTESTS

By one estimate hundreds of protesters staged a rally throughout the Wall Street area Saturday afternoon as part of the US Day of Rage, which was put together by the satirical magazine Ad Busters to draw attention to the role that powerful financial institutions play in “damaging” the U.S. economy.

The protest was orchestrated through Twitter, Facebook and other social media tools. The hub of information on the protests is http://www.usdayofrage.org.

Activists said the protests, often in the form of flash mobs, were held in New York, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle. That may have been part of the problem in coverage -- no advance media PR outreach to the media at large.

The gatherings were modeled after the "Arab Spring" uprisings that have taken place throughout African nations, such as Egypt, Tunisia and Syria and were designed to be a “leaderless resistance movement" orchestrated through social media.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA HAD COMPANY IN NOT COVERING THE PROTESTS

However if mainstream media ignored the story, it had company.

It appears as though even some of the most prominent far left media ignored it as well.

A quick search Sunday of Washington State’s two (arguably) most hard left news sources – The Seattle Weekly and The Stranger , both Seattle based – found no news stories on Days of Rage.

However there were plenty of restaurant and movie reviews as well as coverage of the local arts scene in both papers.

The Stranger’s front-page story Sunday was the “2011 Stranger Genius Awards.”

Below that was a story slugged, “People eat bugs at café Racer.”

Seattle Weekly’s cover story Sunday was “Fall Arts Guide.” Underneath that was a story titled, “Bush brings horny women to The Neptune.”

Curiously the Chronicle did find a story on the protests on the much maligned (by the leftt) right-of-center FOX news.

For the record, Sky Valley Chronicle – the acclaimed leader in covering all things big and small in the Northwest - had no news stories on Days of Rage, outside of this one, either Saturday or Sunday.

We must have been asleep at the wheel again.

    It happens

They appear to be protesting capitalism, credit cards, bailouts, banks, student loans, universities, gas prices, political donations, oil, ketchup and everything else.

Protests are still going on and they have spread to philly. American rapper Eminem is allegedly in NY protesting.

In other news Herman Cain won Florida straw poll with 37%. Perry only had 15%. Bachman had 1%.

Businessman Herman Cain won the Florida straw poll Saturday, beating Texas Gov. Rick Perry, the GOP presidential front-runner who just two days earlier delivered a debate performance that was widely panned.

Cain finished with 37 percent of the vote, while Perry trailed with 15 percent. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney followed with 14 percent while former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum drew 11 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul finished with 10.5 percent, while former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman finished with 2 percent.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who won the Iowa straw poll in August, finished with just 1 percent of the vote.

Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I worry that what you just heard was "Give me a lot of bacon and eggs." What I said was, "Give me all the bacon and eggs you have." Do you understand?

Lots of people tired with the way things are being run in America. So they are doing a peaceful march and such towards Wall Street, Capitol Hills, and other places.
