Well, they've been the only ones into it for years and this time it seems to be even lower on the national radar than usual. I'm assuming they're all watching HGTV or something.

Gets truer every year. Olympics are dying in the America. Got a bump from phelps but this time there isn't even that.

To be fair, I did read that the viewing figures were down, but that it might be down to NBC being fucking tools.

So why is the USA seemingly the only country not interested in the Olympics? Is the love of football/baseball/basketball that extreme that you don't care about other sports? Is it because if you don't win every single event, it's shit? Surely it's good just watching sport, no?

I mean, seriously, would you rather watch WWF or Olympic wrestling?

Olympics sports are straight boring. Gymnastics? Fuck right off with that shit. Water polo? Come on. Broad jump? Eat a dick.

I don't think the World Wildlife Fund has any wrestling, but that might be fun.

Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I worry that what you just heard was "Give me a lot of bacon and eggs." What I said was, "Give me all the bacon and eggs you have." Do you understand?

Fair enough. Your man from NBC might be right that the American audience (apparently predominantly housewives, as you said), have more interest in the journey of the athlete rather than actual sport.

Just weird for me, and I would think the rest of the GB& NI lads and the Aussies, where any sport on TV is an excuse to not talk to anyone for several hours as you find the intricacies of fencing enthralling.

As an aside, the fencing was pretty fucking good yesterday.

We already have like 9 channels devoted to either sports or talking about sports 24 hours a day. The market is just way too saturated for an every 4 years Olympics to make any headway.

Mind you if the coverage is shit then its never going to capture the imagination. As much as I think Auntie is the root of all evil and trying to promote cultural marxism through common purpose, they have provided 6-7 HD channels for me to pick a sport.

Sky have 5 Sports channels, 1 sports news channel, one channel for F1 (which sort of doesn't count) BT have three, Eurosport 2 and thats before you get to Premier, Motors Tv and the terrestrial offerings.

We still love the Olympics. Are your sports channels FTA?

That's the thing, if you want to watch all the sport available here, you have to fork out ~$90 a month minimum, so when you get blanket coverage on free-to-air TV, everyone goes to bananas.
