“We do not speak his name! The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It’s not always clear why. But I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you. After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things. Terrible! Yes. But great. “

He’s no Criss Angel, thats for sure.
29. Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)
87 points, 10 out of 37 lists
Highest rating by Marky Mark at #4
Nominated for three Oscars, and has picked up 13 other awards. It’s worldwide gross is just a bit over $317 million. Is currently not ranked in IMDb’s Top 250.
Previously not listed in the IL Top 25.
There’s a ricockulously huge cast to this movie, directed by Chris Columbus, but mostly hand-picked by J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series of books. Did you know the movie is known as “Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone” everywhere except the United States? The world dumbed it down for the U.S. Also, apparently Steven Spielberg was tapped to direct, but was later turned down because he wouldn’t go with the all-British cast. He wanted Haley Joel Osment to be Harry! Dodged a bullet there.
This movie runs at about two & a half hours, pretty long for a supposed “children’s” movie. Reminds me of The Dark Crystal
, which I watched tonnes of time as a kid. Now I watch & realize why I’m so fucking warped. Seriously, these movies aren’t for younger kids, parents! Pay attention to what they’re watching!
This movie should also be the blueprint for future franchise making. You want to restart the Superman & Batman franchises Warner Brothers? Pay attention to what Columbus did in directing the first two Harry Potter movies. Freaking excellent, capturing the imagination of the book perfectly (for those of us that read that is), & setting the stage for future installments.
Casting relative unknowns for the top three childish actors was a stroke of genius & luck. Coming across Radcliffe, Grint & Watson, & casting them is bloody brilliant luck. Rather than heed Columbus’ advice that they try to have a normal childhood, I think they should just keep going with the characters that they’ve made their own. What do they care, they’ll never have to work a real job ever in their lifetime.
I didn’t write much about the actual movie itself, but suffice to say that it is excellent. There’s no clock-watching, no fidgeting, you’re enthralled by the imagination of the movie. Plus, you’ve got the superior Dumbledore in Richard Harris, & MFing Alan Rickman, goddamn rights! This film may have sneaked into the Top 25 just for Rickman’s greasy performance, but it may be a shock to some to hear theres at least one other Potter film on this list.
“It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry and forget to live.”

I have not seen any of the movies in this or the Lord of the Rings series.
Me neither. Somehow I think I'm not missing anything (besides knowing what it feels like to be a fucking faggot).
Shame on ten of you.
I've never seen these and I'm quite surprised its on here.
Yes, future new readers of this main page, we as a community believe that Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Ghostbusters are INFERIOR to the first Harry fuckin Potter movie.

But we also believe that dogs are smarter than women.
I'm guessing this was somewhere on Dirty Hun's list.
INCORRECT, NERD
Yeah, Hun clearly voted for Order Of The Pheonix.
My God. Awful.
Oh of course.
the the Taff
To the Taff*.
I give up
Dogs are very emotional. I think you meant rational.
Almost a third of IL posters to submit a list had this film on there.
Think about that.
Lets smoke the FAGITS out and mock them relentlessly.
27% is not a third.
Its almost a third. Someones getting a bit defensive Osiris Potter
No its not. It's slightly over a quarter.
ALMOST!!! FUCKER. Jesus, and I thought a thread where 10 people liked Harry Potter couldn't get any worse.
Its not almost. Its much closer to a quarter. 32% is almost a third. 31%. Hell, I'll even give you 30%. But 27% is not almost 33.3333%.
Sorry ROTW, Big O is right here. It's closer to a quarter so logically it can't be almost a third.
Does it even matter? The real issue here is that there are 10 fags on this site who have listed Harry Potter in their top 25 films.
The real issue is you all need to be more open minded. I am appalled.
Insignificant errors are still errors.
The real issue is now that some jackass tried to manipulate statistics to serve his own purpose. He then got called out on it and should be shamed and enter the priesthood.
Embarrassing that this is above movies like American Beauty, American History X, and Eternal Sunshine. The only HP flick that should be anywhere near a list like this is the fourth one.
Harry Potter movies are perfectly acceptable films. Among the greatest of all time? Not quite.
I think the more important number is that it's not on IMDB's top 250.
"Think about that."
I'd imagine that's true with a lot of films. That's why we didn't just take their top 25 and make it ours.
This is worse than having the star wars on the list. Fuck you all NNP.
HAY... you're hurting the feelings of 27% of the posters that sent in a list!
That's like three elevenths of the board!
Yeah...who put this on there?
My Spider Sense is tingling.
Sorry, that was my NHL Stats database. My bad.
Agreed.
What...the...FUCK!!! This sucked and I was forced to watch it. It sucks. Credibility is indeed lost.
You mean this being on 10 people's lists lost the credibility of the list for the whole site?
No, for those individuals.
Skooch, can you post the top 50 of the IL list? Just so we can see what garbage was put on that list.
I think it was only 25, he never revealed the full 50 before. I also didn't submit a list for that one so it's not as good.
Which is the reason why I asked.
Yeah I can post the IL Top 25.

What about #26-50?
I don't have those stats available anymore.
I can only imagine it was all Police Academy.
Spice World was also in there. Damn ROTWers.
FAGGOTS
I prefer Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Bone.
Wowzers
Alright flick but 10 in 37 full-blooded young males rating this in their top 25 has me worrying about the future of the human race.
Lol.
THIS WAS A JOKE BY THE NPP ADMIN TEAM IT ISNT REALLY THE 29TH RANKED MOVIE
It's the 10th?
Yeah, Taff came up with the idea and Boner, Scots and I thought It'd be funny to see what happened. It was funny too.
(WT actually had it on his list)
Is this the first one? I saw that one, and the most recent one, but not the ones in the middle. I've got a friend who makes me look like Fonzie, and he needed an accomplice for the premier and waiting in line to get the last book. Some guy pointed a wand at me and all those times I tried the Jedi Mind Trick came flooding back.
Wand = cock? You wanked him off using the force c/d?
SWERVED~!
Although to be honest I prefer this to Star Wars.
I didnt have you down as a Potter fan, but then again this proves why you should never get to know your heroes they can only disappoint you
I've never read the books, but I've seen one or two of the films. Not sure which ones. They were alright but instantly forgettable.
Still 27% is almost a third.
The correct usage would be to say it's just over a quarter, but almost a third is fair enough.

Are you a fucking mongol or something?
How was that in anyway directed at you?
Ahem
I wish to register that I think the idea of a joke entry is a poor idea and wasn't very funny.
but it bore no relevance to the previous post.
Sorry for calling you a mongol
I thought you were saying I'm stupid for not getting that this was a joke entry, and still arguing with Osiris from 2 pages ago.
I just can't believe no one picked up on the fact that it said 10 people had it on their list but no one posted to say they had it and defended it or anything. Everyone's all "OMG TEN PEOPLE THAT'S SO MANY I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU GUYS" but no one said they had it.
I had just assumed they were either lurkers or too ashamed to admit it. It also seemed believable to think that a pack of nerdlingers had placed it in the 20-25 range and the points just accumulated.
Fiasco.
Lupe?
Bugg answer your pm buddy.
This is a great movie. Now I'm disappointed it's not actually on the list. As someone said earlier, #4 is the best so far.
Are we going to be getting on with the list now or are we on like a week-long break?
Week long break
I went in to post a new one right after the reveal, but there wasn't one ready.
These are the next movies upcoming in the list, not in correct order. If anyone is interested in doing write-ups for any of them, pm me your write-up post-haste!
Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Tombstone (1993)
Cool Hand Luke (1967)
Vern said he'd do a write-up for the last one, but I haven't heard from him about it. I'm not sure if I can receive private messages from people that are on my ignore list.
Then unignore him you doughnut
I could read a Bazooka Joe comic strip and pick up just as much relevant information from it as reading one of Vern's posts.
He's offered to do you a favour and do a write-up. Unignore him and get the write-up.
Jesus wept
If you really need a review from an unfunny balding fatman you could just ask Hole
Thank God I have thinning hair as opposed to balding.
Oh Jesus Christ I hateGroundhog Day one of the most painful films to watch evah.
I've watched two of the films on that list and wasn't a huge fan of one.
I hate you so much right now.
Oh Jesus Christ I hate Groundhog Day one of the most painful films to watch evah.
Oh and if you don't want my help than too bad Skootch.
EDIT: To vern's first post
Groundhog Day is fucking amazing, suck it slappy.
I did send them but I deleted them.
Ah, raspberries.
First you make him resend his list, now you won't accept a writeup from him. This is screaming
more and more. You should have left well enough alone.
If I ignored everyone who added nothing to threads I'd have everyone ignored. It'd just be me bouncing lame jokes off of Kak.
That's ludicrous.
"everyone" must be Kansas talk for ROTW

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
A Clockwork Orange (1971)
Groundhog Day (1993)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Tombstone (1993)
Cool Hand Luke (1967)
Also, if I get time tomorrow I'll do a write up for Big Trouble In Little China and maybe even Wrath Of Khan though I'll probably give that one a miss because that thread is going to be neck deep in flames.
And I fear fire.
Shut it Bertha. Its such a painful film to watch the same scenes over and over again. I STAND BY MY HATENESS.
Shut it Bertha. Its such a painful film to watch the same scenes over and over again. I STAND BY MY HATENESS
You'd better get the joke right when Groundhog day comes up.
Groundhog Day is indirectly responsible for me deleting the IL movie review thread.
Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic
Precisely.
GLINT
Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
/Melts
Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic
Also, if I get time tomorrow I'll do a write up for Big Trouble In Little China and maybe even Wrath Of Khan though I'll probably give that one a miss because that thread is going to be neck deep in flames.

I for one am SHOCKED Ormie is doing a write up for a Star Trek film.
I didn't want to make that joke since it might seem that I'm ungrateful to him for offering to do the write-up. Also, pretty easy joke to make.
Who's doing the write-up for Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic?
I WILL
No more needs to be said squire.
Yeah, I was just curious. As da 'bone said, Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic is all that needs to be said.
So that's a "no" then?
You hate the movie though.
I can still review it though
I'll write up Groundhog Day.
Even better.
OUTRAGEOUS
If Groundhog Day : Fucking ***** Classic does not get a proper review, we riot.
Kendergardener has written up a completely fine dealie.
Slappy's review is better and more factual.
The one he hasn't written yet?
he's making it super spectacular, just for you.
